The Department of Policy works to change the system. Triangle Foundation works to lead Michigan toward a society where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have the same rights, access, and privileges that all other Michiganders receive. Not only do we work to change Michigan’s legislation, but we work to change the ways by which organizations and institutions work. Often there are businesses with practices that do not protect or include LGBT people in their bylaws, which inherently cause cases of discrimination. Through public education and trainings, our policy department works to inform businesses and organizations about the inequalities in their practices and to guide them to more appropriate and inclusive business policies.
Lobbying
Lobby Days (or Advocacy Days) are huge part of what our organization does to push legislation, raise awareness, and rally our community together to protect us in the law. Individuals come from around the state to advocate for themselves and their loved ones by speaking directly with those who represent them in government. These days are empowering and inspiring for members of our community and for our representatives. It is at this time when our government can see the magnitude of the Michigan LGBT community and the passion that we have for equality. On these occasions we have had passed bills through the House of Representatives and have received great recognition from Senators about the importance of being inclusive in our laws and legislature.
Not only do we advocate as a community, but also as individuals. Our Department of Policy is in Lansing on a regular basis, speaking with officials and advocating for positive change. Lobbying is a difficult task, but we all win when we make a difference.
