Gayest
Spring Break Ever!
Many college students across the country go on
Spring Break around midterms to prepare themselves for the rest
of the semester. Some of these students take an
alternative approach to this vacation and spend the
week learning and serving various communities. Triangle
Foundation was selected by multiple universities for
Alternative Spring Break (ASB). Students
traveled from Boston, Miami, and even our own Ann Arbor to
learn about LGBT activism and help spread the word about true
equality and what everyone can do to make that happen.

The following is a personal statement made from one of the most recent Spring Break students. His name is Hernando and he is a current student at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida.
My Spring Break!
Never before was I exposed to the LGBT community like I was this week. As a straight male, I have always tried to sympathize with issues pertaining to the LGBT community, but I needed to know more. Everything I knew about what it means to be LGBT was limited to what I had read in newspapers and seen on film and television. As a result, I decided to participate in this program.
It is through this amazing experience at the Triangle Foundation that I have really been able to put a face on these issues and this community. I now have a greater understanding and it is invaluable! Regardless of the fact that we have only been here for a few days, my group and I have been inspired. The Triangle Foundation does an excellent job at not only educating young people but also in exposing them to the reality of what it really means to be LGBT.
I have also been astounded with the fact that many of the rights that Triangle advocates for are not only for equality for the LGBT community but also for segments for the straight population.
Without hesitation, I would recommend to anyone who is interested in making a difference to come help out and volunteer at the Triangle Foundation. It would be difficult to find another group so organized, diligent, hardworking and kind who strive to better our society by empowering a part of society that is still lacking some of the basic freedoms and rights that every person in this country deserve.
