James F. Lessenberry, Leonard
Mr. Lessenberry has lived with his family in rural Michigan since the Fall of 1996. Professionally, he is an applied animal behaviorist and owner of a private practice in Oakland County. Academic interests center on the comparative study of the development and maintenance of behavior in all species, cross cultural study of human behavior from an ethological perspective, and the social construction of reality. He is a member of the: ACLU, Animal Behavior Society, NGLTF, International Society for Human Ethology, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, National Gay Pilots Association, and Wayne State University Alumni Association. The first openly gay man appointed to the City of Detroit Human Rights Commission Board of Directors, he was subsequently elected Chairperson of the commission and served from June 1994 until November 1996.
