John Allen, JD, Legal Counsel, Pleasant Ridge
After receiving a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Detroit and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan, Mr Allen began his career as a staff member for the Hon. Coleman A Young, Detroit’s longest serving mayor. In that capacity, he oversaw the development and construction of Detroit's cable communications franchise, which remains the nation's largest cable operating system.
Moving into private practice, Allen joined Frasco, Freydl & Caponigro, a law firm specializing in sports and entertainment law with offices in Detroit, Los Angeles and Nashville.
Several years ago, Allen joined with brothers David and James, also attorneys, to form Allen Brothers, P.L.L.C. In his present activities with the firm, Allen concentrates in the areas of corporate law and civil litigation. He has also earned a large client base in Michigan’s GLBT community, providing guidance and representation to its small businesses, families and individual members.
John is a founding member and present Board Co-Chair of the Ruth Ellis Center, a federally funded 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing housing and ancillary services to at-risk GLBT teens and young adults throughout south-east Michigan. He also serves as a board member and Treasurer of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Wayne County, Michigan. He is active in other organizations, including the the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force,where he serves on the organizaton's board. He lives in Pleasant Ridge with his partner of 20 years, Stephen Orlando, and their dogs Tweak and Tremor.
