Georgia Carpenter joined Triangle in August 2007 as a Victim Advocate. Before coming to Triangle, Georgia worked for 13 years as an advocate and counselor for Spanish- and English-speaking survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in shelter organizations in Pennsylvania and Michigan. She has devoted much of her life to working for the fair treatment of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. She has given numerous community presentations including: domestic violence and sexual assault in the GLBT community, working with Limited English Proficient/Immigrant survivors, the effects of witnessing domestic violence on children, and legal advocacy for immigrant survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault. Georgia is a graduate of Wayne State University with a Master of Arts in Psychology-Human Development and a graduate certificate in Infant Mental Health. During her undergraduate years at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, she and five other students co-founded a student organization for GLBT students which is still active today. Georgia and her partner Helen live in Farmington Hills with her son Joe and their three cats. Together Georgia and Helen have five children, two grandsons, and another grandbaby due to arrive in 2008!
