Detroit born and raised, Chene Koppitz returned to the Motor City in 2006 to begin work on simultaneous BS and MA degrees in Communications and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. In early August 2007, she replaced Stephanie Newman as the Director of Community Events, a position which meshed with her background in entertainment publicity and event planning.

Prior to her position at the Triangle Foundation, she served as a press coordinator at the Tribeca Film Festival, although her most notable local position was as City Manager/Marketing Coordinator for Landmark Theatres (operators of the Main Art and Maple Art Theatres). She has previously worked as a film publicist for Marontate and Company and as an artist representative for Hybrid Records.

She holds degrees in Comparative Religion and American Literature from New York University, Broadcast Arts from Oakland Community College and editing and television production certification from Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts.

Always interested in the arts, Chene has been writing since elementary school, winning a regional Scholastic Young Writer award in fourth grade, resulting in her first published work at age 9. She contributed to her high school year book, literary magazine and newspaper, as well as being active in Junior Classical League, a group dedicated to keeping Latin alive in the modern age. This connection to the classical world lead to a minor in Classics when she entered college.

College found her interests split between entertainment, academics and volunteerism. While nights were spent bartending and booking bands, most days were spent – when not studying – split between the radio station (at which she was the Community Affairs Director) and the newspaper, first as a contributing writer, then as the Entertainment editor. She was – and still remains – a member of the National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood. She is also a member of WILL (Women in Learning and Leadership) and has recently joined Call to Action Michigan.

Additionally, Chene runs her own boutique public relations agency, Motor City PR. Her client list includes national film companies like IDP (The Squid and the Whale, Southland Tales) and Magnolia Pictures (Jesus Camp, No End in Sight), as well as regional and local artists (Mark Heggie) and musicians (Electric Six).

She lives in Oak Park with the requisite collections of vintage film and vinyl and an amusing set of issues left unresolved from adolescence.
